This is because she was a caring person that advocated for humane treatment of the people who were sick. One way she changed the world is she noticed that the sick people were not being treated as well as they need to and she wanted to change that. She traveled 100,000 miles just to investigate what was going on in mental asylums throughout the world. Dorothea Dix fought because she knew people with mental illnesses were still humans and show be respected like others. She served as a superintendent of army nurses during the civil war. Dorothea noticed that insane people didn't get fair treatment and would be confined in a cage with chains and ropes. She traveled 10,000 miles to investigate the problem. She'd been traveling since 1842-1845. She thought mental people should be respected like normal people. She established mental hospitals in 11 states. She also found mental hospitals in Russia, Turkey, and Scotland.
